My name is Manatea Nutter
Since early childhood, I have witnessed the power of Rolfing and its benefits. At just two months old, I received healing energy from Jim Asher, great Rolfer and friend of my father's from Rolfing school. I was born with a broken collarbone, which left me in excruciating pain and unable to hold my head up. While my father was in chiropractic school, Jim stayed with us for over a month, treating me daily to get my head on straight.
I am grateful to have had a father who has been a healer throughout my whole life. He has helped me through countless injuries growing up and into adulthood and still shares healing and knowledge to this day. In junior high and high school, my father had an in-home office where he held his Rolfing practice. I witnessed many people with injuries come and go, but they always left with relief and a smile. I knew back then that there was something special about this healing work.
Following high school, I pursued my interest in structures with carpentry/roofing. As my passion for precision grew, I became acutely aware of the body postures and patterns of my co-workers. I observed how those who struggled with poor body mechanics had a decrease in work performance and quality of production. Also, I noticed how their discomfort affected their personalities on an emotional level; constant pain can be incredibly exhausting. I became increasingly aware of the importance of proper body mechanics.
I began my healing journey in 2013 at The Guild for Structural Integration in Boulder, Colorado, where I received my first basic 3 series of Rolfing while studying anatomy. My body's response was unreal; it activated an awareness that was greater than ever. In the next couple of months, I lost over 20 lbs as my body reformed to ease and comfort with proper movement. I felt the best ever in my life, and I had only completed the first 3 sessions of Rolfing. The next class I attended was on Kauai in 2014, where I received my first 10 series during my auditing course. There, I had the honor of training with Emmett Hutchins, a great mentor and teacher. He was Dr. Ida P. Rolf's first appointed teacher at the Rolf Institute in the late '70s. I then completed my practitioner's course with the Guild and Emmett by our side in 2015. I became a certified practitioner of Structural Integration and have been learning more and more as my practice grows. Learning is a never-ending process.
As Ida Rolf said, "A Rolfed body isn't permanent, it's progressive!"
